Robert Downey Set His Eyes On YouTube Subscription
The biggest box-office hit star, Robert Downey, is turning his eyes on YouTube’s subscription service. The said ‘celeb’, is now following up the Avengers movie with an online series about artificial intelligence which has been schedule for 2019.
The Iron man actor and his wife, Susan Downey will be presenting the eight part documentary. “This move gave the YouTube Red pay service a boost ahead of its planned global expansion.” An expert said. According to Tom Harrington of Enders Analysis, “If you look at all of YouTube Red’s original stuff, most of it is people who became famous on YouTube.” This is just the diversifying. It gives the whole product offering a look that isn’t a bunch if kids talking at a camera and pulling pranks, which is a dismissive attitude that a lot of people take to vloggers.
However, YouTube Red first launched in 2015 as an answer to other paid subscription services as Netflix, Amazon video and Spotify. The subscriptions cost is $10(£7.42) per month. You can find it only in the US, Australia, Mexico, New Zealand and South America, whereas the company said it is planning to launch in more countries this year.
Moreover, Mr.Harrington has said that working with stars as Robert Downey Jr was a way of expanding the avenue or platform beyond its original scope that focused on monetising personalities who became famous on YouTube. “Suddenly you’ve got a show with Robert Downey Jr and AI and you think, ‘May be I’ve got YouTube Red wrong, maybe indeed I need to look into this.”
Furthermore, the announcement about the AI series follows the successful run of another YouTube Red original Cobra Kai that is based on the Karate kid franchise, topped parrot Analytics to 10 television charts for digital original in the previous week. Eight days after the series debut this month, YouTube announced that it would be renewed for a second season.
